AI Visibility FAQ

Introduction

About AI Visibility

AI Visibility is Amplitude's solution for tracking and improving your brand's presence in AI-generated answers across ChatGPT, Claude, Google AI Overview, and Gemini.

Why AI search matters for your business

Consumers are increasingly using AI assistants instead of traditional search engines to research products. If your brand isn't appearing as a recommendation in AI answers, you risk losing high-intent customers to competitors.

Who should use AI Visibility

Marketing, SEO, content, and product teams can all benefit. Use AI Visibility to monitor brand mentions, optimize content for AI search, and prove ROI to leadership.

Get started with AI Visibility

You can access AI Visibility directly inside the Amplitude platform across all plans. Amplitude also provides a limited, free experience to non-customers.

About AEO

AEO stands for Answer Engine Optimization. AEO is the practice of optimizing your content so that AI-powered answer engines, like Google AI Overview, surface your brand in their generated responses. Where traditional SEO focuses on ranking in search engine results pages, AEO focuses on appearing in the AI-generated answers that are increasingly replacing those results.

How it works

AI Visibility provides a customer dashboard that includes your visibility score, competitive rankings, and the sources large language models use to generate responses.

Platforms and models AI Visibility tracks

AI Visibility monitors brand performance in ChatGPT, Claude, Google AI Overviews, and Gemini.

How does Amplitude calculate my AI Visibility score?

Your AI Visibility score represents the percentage of AI-generated responses, across all tracked prompts, that mention your brand.

How often AI Visibility updates

AI Visibility updates automatically each week. Contact your Amplitude account team to request a custom update frequency.

The free version of AI Visibility doesn't update.

Track the performance of multiple domains

Yes. AI Visibility supports tracking multiple brands or domains within your account. You can configure separate prompt sets, competitor lists, brand URLs, and regional and language settings for each brand, and switch between them from the brand dropdown in the AI Visibility dashboard.

Track competitor performance

Yes. The competitive rankings feature highlights exactly which prompts and keywords lead to competitor mentions in AI search. It also provides recommendations about how to close the gap.

Change the LLM that AI Visibility uses

No.

Filter for premium users such as ChatGPT Plus or Pro

No. AI Visibility looks at the total responses from an LLM or AI.

GDPR implications of AI Visibility

AI Visibility tracks publicly available AI-generated content and doesn't collect personal data from your end users, so it doesn't introduce additional GDPR obligations on its own. Amplitude built its platform to support GDPR compliance. For full details on Amplitude's data privacy and compliance posture, review Trust, Security, and Privacy.

AI Visibility analysis privacy

Yes. Amplitude processes any URLs you submit for analysis within your authenticated Amplitude organization. When Amplitude forwards these requests to the LLM endpoint, contractual controls cover them. By contract, Amplitude doesn't retain your analysis requests or use them to build public models.

Amplitude's default data retention policy

Amplitude retains customer data for the duration of the subscription. After contract termination, Amplitude retains your information for a 30-day data retrieval period. After that, Amplitude deletes all customer data unless the law requires limited retention.

AI Visibility prompts

Amplitude asks LLMs such as ChatGPT to generate likely prompts that marketers might be interested in.

Whether prompts come from real user data

No. OpenAI, Google, and other companies don't share what users are searching. The prompts Amplitude generates come from what LLMs know is relevant to your brand.

Unlimited by category or filter selection. However, your pricing tier limits your total number of prompts.

Modify the prompts

Yes, if you're logged into the Amplitude system. After you enter new prompts, the system refreshes.

No. Popular prompts don't include volume data.

Prompt for regional performance

Yes. AI Visibility lets you configure language and region settings for each brand you track. You can set a specific region to receive AI-generated responses tailored to that market. By default, AI Visibility uses global settings.

Supported prompt languages

AI Visibility supports prompting in multiple languages. You can configure the language setting for each brand using a two-character language code (for example, EN for English, FR for French). By default, AI Visibility uses English language prompts.

Reporting and actionability

See where competitors are winning

Yes. The competitive rankings feature highlights exactly which prompts and keywords lead to competitor mentions in AI search. It also provides recommendations about how to close the gap.

Connection to traffic and conversions

Unlike standalone search analysis tools, Amplitude builds AI Visibility into its platform. You can tie AI search visibility to products custom-built to manage customer behavior, conversion, and revenue.

Use AI Visibility insights in Amplitude dashboards, charts, and reports

Yes. You can use AI Visibility events like "[AI Visibility] Brand Snapshot" in Amplitude Analytics. For more information, go to AI Visibility events.

Improve how often you show up in AEO results

Yes. AI Visibility includes an Actions section with tools to help improve your brand's presence in AI-generated answers, an Analyze Page tool to evaluate specific URLs or content, Simulate Changes to preview the impact of content updates before publishing, and a Generate Content tool to create targeted copy for your website. It also includes a Recommendations section with guidelines to improve your content ranking and make sure your website is ready for AI crawlers.

Track how your AI Visibility changes over time

Yes. The AI Visibility dashboard includes a Visibility/Rank over Time graph that shows how your brand's visibility score and average ranking have trended week over week. You can also use AI Visibility events like "[AI Visibility] Brand Snapshot" to map trends over time alongside other key business metrics in Amplitude Analytics.

Reporting and export options

You can build charts in Amplitude with live data about your AI Visibility brand, competitor, and topic performance and view trends alongside key business metrics. You can also export all prompt metrics as a CSV file. You can share dashboards, charts, and usage reports in Amplitude Analytics as PNG, PDF, CSV, or shareable links.

Tracking and integrations

Identify activity such as sessions and events from LLM or conversational AI tools

You can identify activity referred to an application from an LLM or conversational AI tool through either the referrer or the utm_source. Amplitude's advanced out-of-the-box channel classifiers include logic for identifying each. If you already have existing rules, you can replicate this logic within your own rules.

Prompt and citation level data for referrals

LLM or conversational AI tools don't supply the prompts when these tools refer users to other applications. You can evaluate entry pages for sessions from LLMs to understand which pages on your site most commonly receive direct referrals.

Integration with analytics platforms like Google Analytics

Yes, Amplitude provides a native Google Analytics 4 integration.

Connect AI Visibility results with an MCP server

Yes. Amplitude's MCP (Model Context Protocol) server lets external AI clients run natural-language queries against your Amplitude data, including AI Visibility events.

Usage, pricing, and access

Usage limits for AI Visibility

Plan Prompts
Free/Starter 500 prompts on ChatGPT and Google AI Overview
Plus 1,000 prompts on ChatGPT and Google AI Overview
Growth 2,500 prompts on ChatGPT and Google AI Overview
Enterprise 5,000 prompts on ChatGPT and Google AI Overview

Custom prompt volume, daily data refresh, and access to Claude and Gemini models are custom add-ons to your plan.

How identical prompts across different LLMs count

Identical prompts count as a single prompt, regardless of the LLM. If the prompt is identical across different LLMs, it still counts as a single prompt toward your usage limit.

Maximum number of users for AI Visibility

Unlimited.

How Role-Based Access (RBAC) rules apply to AI Visibility

Amplitude's RBAC process uses three layers: roles, permissions, and actions. Administrators can assign default or custom roles at the project level. You can assign users and groups to receive view-only, admin, or other permissions sets for each project. This lets you limit who can access each project's AI Visibility analysis.

How using AI Visibility affects your platform plan

The AI Visibility dashboard is free and available to all Amplitude customers regardless of plan tier. AI Visibility also generates events to track brand, competitor, and topic performance over time. AI Visibility: Brand Snapshot generates weekly by default. Competitor-specific and topic events are off until you enable them. Each unique brand or competitor that receives events counts toward your project's monthly tracked users (MTU) quota. Enabling competitor events or topic events increases the volume of events sent to your project. Review your plan's MTU limits before enabling additional event types.

Alternative options

How Amplitude's AI Visibility compares to other AEO-specific tools like Profound and Evertune AI

Amplitude AI Visibility stands out compared to other Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) tools because of two key differentiators: platform and pricing.

Since AI Visibility is part of the Amplitude platform, it connects with the rest of your org's data to uniquely link AEO insights with ROI. It also uses the platform's capabilities to prioritize recommendations and simulate changes, helping you take action on your insights faster. Other AEO-specific tools are siloed, and since many aren't mature enough to have third-party integration yet, you have to use manual effort to do anything with your AEO data.

Other AEO tools run from moderately to extremely expensive. Amplitude AI Visibility has everything you need to get started for free.

How Amplitude's AI Visibility compares to other SEO+AEO tools like Semrush or Ahrefs

Compared to traditional SEO tools that have recently added AI visibility features, Amplitude AI Visibility stands out because of two differentiators: platform and pricing.

As part of the Amplitude Digital Analytics Platform, AI Visibility connects with the rest of your org's data to uniquely link AEO insights with ROI. It also uses the platform's capabilities to prioritize recommendations and simulate changes, helping you take action on your insights faster. Because other SEO suites are siloed, they require separate integrations or manual effort to do anything with your data.

With other SEO suites, AI visibility comes at an extra cost. Amplitude AI Visibility has everything you need to get started for free.
